nikaviaIt’s been since February since I last updated.
The basics of the last 6ish months:
I Graduated from College Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
I am attending Grad School at UNM, working with my Fluids Professor on Shock Tubes.
We built a freaking awesome Wheelchair for Design V.
I became obsessed with DC Comics.
Angel Died.
The specifics in detail under the cuts, like last time I did a recap of my life.
The Months
February
Found SouthLAnd. I like it. Realistic without being actual reality TV. Which lead to me watching a few episodes of The OC. At least I didn’t watch them all is all I have to say. I only watched like the first 3.5 and laughed at the cute baby faced actors. There was also a stabbing on campus, outside of anthro. This is being mentioned because apart from the whole OMG STABBING bit, I was outside, by myself, when the stabbing happened, directly south of Anthro. Where did the stabber run? South, naturally. I obviously wasn’t stabbed but I never went out after dark by myself again. We decided on a design for Design V: Geared Wheelchair. Fandoms: Merlin
March
Midterms! First time in a long while I have actually had Midterms. Last semester there were tests that happened to fall in the midterm time period, but nothing else. The big thing this time was of course, Design V presentation. I didn’t end up presenting for the midterm, but I did pull together the entire paper the night before. It snowed, which was pretty sweet. I love snow. Our project was well received and we got some good advice. I took the rest of the afternoon off and then I studied for my controls midterm, which I didn’t do so hot on. I applied for grad school at UNM as well, and within a few hours of turning in my application, Professor Truman (fluids and Thermo prof) emailed me saying he wanted to talk about a research position that would pay tuition + stipend. The other big change was my rapid spiral into madness. I feel in love with DC comics. I am going to blame procrastinating on applying for graduate school or something but I found myself obsessed with Tim Drake (Robin III) and Superboy, who I learned had just come back from the dead (was kind of crushed when I found out he died so…). It only got worse. At this point, I was only into Batman & Robin and Red Robin. Things… Went downhill. I started going to Astrozombies weekly. It’s right by campus and I dragged Dusty with me pretty much every week until school let out. Fandoms: Merlin, DC Comics (Batman and Robin, Red Robin)
April
Busy Month. At this point, I dropped down to 4 hours of sleep each night. Working on two group projects, ME460 and ME486. It was very stressful. One was due at the end of the month, the other the last week of class. I also had to design controllers for Digital controls. Blagh. I actually don’t remember much of this month, probably because most of it was spent with me going crazy in the ME building. Still had time to obsess though. Fandoms: DC Comics (Batman, Robin, Red Robin, Superboy, Teen Titans)
May
The month started out exhausting. I went to a wedding the first day of May, then I turned in two projects, took a few tests and wrapped up the semester without too much blood and tears. I also got initiated into Tau Beta Pi. I can’t talk about it.
I also GRADUATED! OMG I AM STILL FEELING AWESOME ABOUT IT ALL THESE MONTHS LATER. Pictures at some point, probably flocked or something.
Ezi was here for about 20 hrs. It was pretty epic. SHE’S ENGAGED!
Dusty left to visit Cait in England.
Fandoms: DC Comics, pretty much any that I can get my hands on.
June
Started lectures with Professor Truman. They are interesting but intense.
I turned 22! Yay for being old! Got to spend 150 at Best Buy. It was pretty awesome.
I fell in love with Guy Gardner. Who is SO not my type. But blackest night was so impressive and made me fall in love. And really, out of the GL, Kyle is my usual.
Fandoms: DC Comics, especially anything involving Guy Gardner.
July
I finally got my contract in place around the middle of the month. ARGH.
Angel died on July 5th. I was… I still can’t talk about it, even in blog form.
Blackest night came out in collected editions this month.
Secret Six is a comic I just found about a week ago. I LOVE it. There are simply no words. I bought ALL of it in less than a week. Two mini series, and 23 issues, in various (and sometimes duplicated but we are not talking about that) forms. I adore it. Seriously. I made a MOOD THEME for it.
Fandoms: DC Comics, esp anything involving Guy Gardner or Anyone from the Secret Six.
The Classes
ME 481 Digital Controls
I didn’t really enjoy this class. It was my least favorite for the semester I think. A graduate level class, on top of two other graduate level classes, design v and stats? It was not pleasant and this class kept being shoved back. And so, I didn’t put as much effort into it as I should have. I ended up designing 4 controllers for this class. My favorite was the Mimo controller because I figured that one out pretty much on my own. The final project for this class was writing a LONG document about all of the controllers. It was due on Wednesday and I did it Sunday and Monday. Meant I got to hand in my report on Tuesday and be done with school.
ME 460 Design V
There is so much I can say about this class. Our project was awesome and well received. And I only got two hours of sleep before the final presentation. It was messy. Slept all day afterward. But it was awesome and it WORKED! I was so excited!
ME 416 Applied Dynamics
I really enjoyed this class. It was interesting, moderately difficult and fun. Fernando and I had a great time studying for it. But I really liked having a class with Ebrahimi, and he apparently liked me because he ended up signing me up for a graduate school scholarship. Which I got! YAY NYSSA. Anyway, I had fun. The only problem is that I took both ME481 and ME406, meaning that I have taken two of three potential options for one of my core classes for gradschool.
ME 486 Design for Manufacturability
I learned a lot in this class. I really had a good time in it. My group was Dominic, Mike and Fernando and we redesigned an oscillating fan. It was pretty difficult. For our last hwk assignment we built a catapult that launched a golf ball 14 ft. it was pretty freaking awesome. The class itself was very informative and I just… enjoyed it.
STAT 345 Statistics
This class was I think the easiest 300 level math class I have ever taken. I studied about 6 hrs the entire semester. I did my hwk once, at the beginning of the semester. I made each of my cheat sheets the day of the exam. I got an A in the class. Without even trying. It made me kind of depressed.
The People
Fernando
He has decided to go to UofC Bolder for Grad School. I am so excited for him. The FSAE car took 19th out of something like 82 teams. We graduated, finally, and I don’t think either of us have smiled so much in our lives. I’ll put pictures up somewhere and link them over and around.
Jason
Was a saving grace and went to a wedding with me as my date. I was very very very thankful for this because I was kind of nervous about going to the wedding at all. He is in Spain right now, and pretty much had the greatest time ever when Spain won the world cup.
Dusty
She was very very tolerant of my rapid downward spiral into DC comics. She went to Astrozombies with me every week during the school year, and has allowed me to go totally wild on various occasions. She also found me a Zombie batman shirt. Apparently I almost passed out in Hot Topic when I saw it. I just kind of remember squeaking really loudly.

The VICES, Saving Graces, and Other Simple Pleasures
Merlin
This obsession has dwindled off. It’s still there, and it still runs along the back of my mind, but it isn’t my OBSESSION right now. But it still crops up. Had fun organizing my bookmarks for it recently. Nice way to remind myself of it. Haven’t gotten any new ones though. Yay?

Has totally gotten out of control. As of right now, I have 99 unsorted, and 1241 total. And most of them involve Guy Gardner.

It’s simpler if I just list the comics I actively follow: Red Robin, Batman and Robin, Superman, Batman, Gotham City Sirens, Return of Bruce Wayne, Detective Comics, The Flash, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, Generation Lost, Batman Beyond, Brightest Day, Superman/Batman, Time Masters, Batman: Odyssey, Red Hood, and my newest obsession, Secret Six. I made a MOOD THEME okay? For Secret Six :)
So yeah, now I'm all caught up. See if we can do a better job huh?
