The big 400.

Might as well make it worth while.

I’ve decided the best way to do so was to wait until the end of Spring 2008 term. So here I am. I haven’t updated in over a month and I have taken more tests then I care to remember.

So now it is time for some self reflection…

Have I changed over the past year?

This time last year I was upset because my best friend was moving back to Alaska. I was taking a summer school calculus course. I was learning how to live without my bestfriend right there all over again. I spent that summer learning calc twice a week (acing the course) and reading. Yuka came in August before school started.

And then school started up and I was forced to change. Jason hugged me first day of  school and I realized that we were hugging friends and the rest is filled with more boys and humiliating moments then I can recall.

So I have changed. Because at the beginning of my sophomore year, I was timid and shy and could hardly meet Jason’s eyes. Now I do… Now I can meet people and look them in the eye and… feel like I fucking earned the right to be there. My good old study group called me brilliant. Fernando called my many times the smartest person he ever met. Doubtful, but it felt good to hear a guy in a male dominated field say that about a scrawny girl who when they first met could hardly be in the same room as him without feeling totally awkward. I have new found confidence and a new understanding of why exactly men find women so irritating. I feel like I belong, rather than the awkward residual feeling of being offset, out of place. Nothing feels better than feeling like being one of the boys in the boys game. And no matter what anyone tells you, it is still a boys game. Girls can do it, most don’t because they either a) suck at math b)suck at homework or c) don’t want to play with the boys. Lucky for me, don’t suck at math, don’t suck at homework and I don’t mind dealing with men who would rather get good grades. Anyway… I like this newer more confident capable of talking to guys she hasn’t spent months warming up to me. I smile a lot more now and I don’t feel lonely. I get my homework done and I have a good time doing it. I am enjoying college and don’t have the uneasy doubts that I had in the beginning… I have a 3.6 GPA, have been on the Dean’s List for the School of Engineering for all four semesters and have managed to maintain my hellish 18 hour days and good humor for the most part.

My hobbies however are on a downward spiral. My compulsions to buy are bad and evil and I am collecting, which is never a good sign. I am collecting many things and obsessed and need to buy CCG things… even if I don’t play. But it gives me something to obsess about in a controlled way. I have found new things to do, I love my DS and I have read more books than I probably should have this past year. And I am planning on reading more. Sounds like a plan all around.

Other than that… not much to tell. I’ve changed… but I don’t mind what I am becoming.

Two more years till full on adulthood and grad school.

Hopefully I’ll feel like I learned a lot when I get my diploma.

And now for my hard earned and hard fought for summer.

Ugh so I caught up again. Sorry everyone. I had to do it and I was going insane. I spent… 6 hours studying physics today. I may die tomorrow but I will be happy. There was lots of talking and many other things. I also discovered that I will graduate college at the age of 21.
The Black Tattoo is an awesome book. The cover was pretty but… man that book was great. It was 500 pages but it was brilliant. It was inpiring. It made me write… just not about A.N.G.E.L.S. but man it was good.
I also went to the Calc recitation. That was way odd but things… clicked. It was neat! Then there was food and Law and Order… which is bad. Very bad… and addictive but bad.
I wish I had more to talk about but I don’t. I just want to finish up and sleep.
Oh I did write NaNoWriMo… only 47.5 thousand more words!

Doppelganger

Today is Dusty’s Birthday so happy birthday Dusty!
I didn’t wake up until 10. I got like 50 pages into Doppelganger last night and then I read the rest of it this morning. It was a good book with an interesting concept. Plus it talked about Shakespearian Tragedies (Macbeth, which I love). It was… neat… creepy but neat. The concept is that Doppelgangers are hunters. They watch us and learn our patterns, then they corner us, kill us and take us over. The book follows a Doppelganger after just before his first kill. He takes the form of an old homeless man before some teenage boys attack him. One of them orders the others away, he and the Doppelganger talk. The kid attacks the Doppelganger, and the Doppelganger strangles him by accident and takes his form. He promises the dead teenager that he “won’t screw things up”… He finds out about the boy(Chris), Chris’ abusive father, his girlfriend and who Chris really is. It was good…
I also worked on Mills today. We did something neat. I did one part right but I apparently can’t count at all… Figures right?
I also did statics with Jason and Chris for a few hours. It was fun, because hey it’s them. The statics is kinda confusing right now but it makes much more sense in hindsight.
I cleaned my room. I also have started Bloodline… Vampire, Harkers and WWI oh my!

Silly boys

So it is Monday…. And the first day of a whole new month… I think I get to have the grand pleasure of starting my goals over… **cough cough not really**… well really just continuing on since I didn’t write at all in the last month. College and reading has hampered my creativity. I read 24 books in 30 days. What the hell is my problem?... in an interesting note… I started an Anita Blake book like 2 ish months ago and I still haven’t finished it. I think I should work on that eventually… maybe later.
I added the book thing on facebook… wasted several hours… it was fun. Today was nice and silly. 2/3 of the male part of my study group and I had lunch together. They were idiots and they entertained me. Hurrah!

Early all over

 Oh TGIF! I am sooo worn out for this week. It seemed to be impossibly long. Totally sucked. I finished Operation Red Jericho today. It was pretty good… written for like a 16 year old so a bit of an easy read. It had neat pictures and the book was set up like a journal, even with an elastic thing to hold it shut. It had maps! The funnier part was of course my beloved study groups reaction to my 4th book of the week, earning me mocking and teasing. We got out of two classes early today. My calc class was over 15 minutes early and my statics class was over 20 minutes early. So what did we do? Geeked out and watched KH videos and Super Smash Brothers clips… we are geeks, I am so ashamed… no I’m not I love them to pieces.
Sarah called me this morning which was awesome.
Then I went home, went to borders, bought two Getbackers and read them before finally opening my SDK that I haven’t read yet and have been pining over for like…. 2 weeks. I am crushed. One of my fave characters expired…

Ugh so today was lame but okay. I want to stab myself for the stupidest mistake ever on my statics exam. It was pretty horrible. I am sooo depressed over it…
In other knews I finished Dead Beat today. I loved Butcher’s concept for the necromancers needing a beat in order for their zombies to remain under their control… also can you say T-Rex in Chicago? It was awesome… and Marcone was in it for 5 pages and that made me so happy.
I have to think about what I am going to do for my AMST paper. I got to turn in my ME stuff… my homework this week is (dare I say it) nice?... Apparently I get to have a take home quiz in calc this week as well… We just started partial derivatives… exciting news is that I got a 84% on my Calc Exam! Yay!
And I started Rant…. It looks to be interesting…

So today was long. But fun. Dusty came over at like 11 this morning so we did homework for like an hour and a half and then we talked and then we went to class. My lab was scary today. I do no like this whole drilling thing. It freaks me out way too much. But it was still kinda interesting. Then I met up with Dusty and Lenellie afterwards and we chatted for like an hour. That was also fun. Then I went back to the dorm and attempted my physics homework and got a large portion of it done and watched some CSI. Then I went to see two of my study group members and read Dead Beat while I waited for them to show up. Gentleman Johnnie Marcone appeared! I was thrilled. Then we did ME and Physics. So I look at my to do list and my homework looks like just statics and physics and then my AMST midterm. No more tests for a while. Hurrah!
Now I am catching up on all these posts and wondering if I will be able to shell out 10000 words in under a week… I think not.

Very exciting day. My study group kicks ass. They defend me from Serial Killers that loiter around UNM… you know all 0 of them. But they are awesome. We went to CAPS to study today. It was my first time. Very scary and very loud. I bet we are going to be studying in the library a lot more.
I got to use the drill part of the lathe today. It was terrifying. I never want to do that again just because I was looking at it and thinking of the billions of ways it could possibly go wrong. It was not a pleasant experience. Totally not my idea of fun. But it was kinda exciting… which leaves me totally confused. I also did physics today and there was much rejoicing.
Ugh tired. And I have to write a paper in the next two hours…

Monday monday monday

Ah Mondays.
I hate Mondays for soooo many reasons. First, it is a Monday. Therefore it is evil. Secondly, I have to wake up early, at 8am and go off to class for many hours and then I get a break (though usually not as that is when I do my homework) and then I go to class again. And then I get to spend the whole day working myself into a mess because tomorrow, I get to play with machines that cut hands off.
So I woke up bright and early and went to ME 260 and read the whole time, well ‘cept when I was taking notes. I was reading Fool Moon, which is the second book in the Dresden Files, and I have finished it. Go me. I was also trying to de-stress as I was about to go take…
Physics 161 test! I hate physics tests. In my personal imagining of hell, physics tests factor in somewhere between the giant ants and the tomatoes. I think I did alright though… either that or we all did the problems wrong. Benefit of the study group again. We all can learn this crap together and then we can compare answers after the test. Happiness!
Calc III was boring. I did sudoku and sat under the air conditioner again. I am an idiot. Must remember to bring coat next time.
Statics was alright I guess. We are doing moments, which make a hell of a lot more sense in statics than they ever did in physics. It’s probably because they never taught us the cross product way and decided that watching us struggle with rxF was funny… bastards.
Went back to my room and watched my torrents tick by. I also watched the entirety of the Dresden Files over the past 24 hours. Idiot me. Finished Fool Moon during this time as well. Still have to read Grave Peril and watch Hellsing… to do list all the way soon.
Went to American Studies… I will never eat again. I also have to go someplace this weekend, some kind of fair(not the state fair unfortunately) or something and take notes and write a whole paragraph on my experience there. Damnation I don’t wanna! I also have to write my response paper… ugh. Oh well I shall worry about that later I suppose…
Went over to visit Cait. She made brownies and we watched part of a Doctor Who episode (the Shakespearean Code, the one with the Harry Potter reference). It was fun but now I am sleepy and working myself into a mess about tomorrow. I hate ME 260L prelab nerves.

Wicked and Things

Read more of Wicked today. I do not like this part of the book. Today I met up with my study group. We did well on our physics, and I got thanks you’s and I feel like the token girl of the group. It’s kind of exciting. We’ll see if I can manage it for a while. Fernando and I talked for 35 minutes today. We originally got together after our AMST class to do a Statics problem, but it was pretty simple so we hung out for hour half an hour and just… talked. He’s pretty neat, fairly intelligent and I didn’t want to kill him once. I think this is the beginning of a wonderful studying relationship. I am worried about tomorrow, as I have my three hour lab tomorrow, with it’s scary machines and things… yikes.
