So my self control has evaporated. I played Genji for a long time and watched way too much Getbackers and bought 7 (SEVEN) manga. This is why i need friends who say "just say no" and then stop me from whatever i am supposed to be saying no too. But i love all of them and finally beat the stupid boss woman in Genji, whom i have hated for many battles. Jessica is a nice little good luck charm and is just sweet as hell. I haven't read at all, which makes me feel sort of bad but at the same time not. I have even mostly avoided the internet... i know scary... meh Linds only has two more days of vacation left so i am going to go to bed and read my new manga...

So even though i have hardly read at all over the break, i still went to the library and checked out books. I am an idiot but... whatever.

Books are
Traitor by Andy McNab and Robert Rigby
Payback By Andy McNab and Robert Rigby (They looked interesting so i picked them up. Plus had covers that reminded me of Alex Rider)
The Named by Marianne Curley
The Dark by Marianne Curley (I have no idea, i think it was the back cover that caught my attention. Hopefully they will be good)
New Amsterdam by Elizabeth Bear (The thing said that lovers of LKH would like it so i was curious and here i am, reading it)
Taken by Edward Bloor(Chess on the cover, as well as strange kidnapping)
Monster Tattoo Book One: The Foundling by D.M. Cornish (With a title like that who could resist)
Boy2Girl by Terence Blacker (Sounds funny, about a boy who is dared to dress up and fool everyone into thinking he is a girl the first day of School. It works too well)
The Unthinkable Thoughts of Jacob Green by Joshua Braff( another title impossible to resist)

Also bought many manga today. Good sale at Borders (5 for 4).
Also played Genji. Hate stupid woman. Must die.
Tomorrow i be lazy and maybe read one of my many library books.

So today was... filled with many watching of things. Watched The Closer, watched Lost, watched Resident Evil 4 clips with the sibling. Also pined for non-here anime that is arriving next week. There is much pining. Thought about reading... didn't. Thought about cleaning my room... didn't. Thought about making list of OTPs to keep self entertained... might actually do it in a bit, depending on whether or not sister distracts me. Thought about resuming crazy list at bottom of page today... haven't because I am lazy. Maybe tomorrow. Planning on going to Borders tomorrow (5 for 4 deal!) and spending alot of money... meh only 12 more to go and then i have to find something else to spend my money on. Thought about counting up my manga... or at least adding... too tired to go find a calculator and Matlab (though only three clicks away) just seems too troublesome. Been having strange hacking coughing fits at 3 am for the past two nights, wonder if 2008 is out to get me already. Have become obsessed with deep Asian male voice... don't know why but it is there... talking to me... telling me to watch more YouTube... and buy things i don't need... Did think about which mangas i could live without... came up with a few for further review. For the most part today was lazy as hell and I loved it!... I will try to be more... focused or less lazy tomorrow.

So today was way exciting. I am alone in my big scary house with my three dogs, one of whom is blind, another hyper and the last neurotic and depressed. But I am now watching marathons of Monk. I am now feeling neurotic. I have not read anything but fruits basket today… I bought the next two volumes and then the next volume of SDK. I have only 13 volumes left! Which is sooo exciting. I went to the library today and turned in books but did not check any out, even though I looked at books, which was amazing and just strange. Then I went to borders and bought 6… impulse control needed badly. I also watched the closer and house today… I forgot to mention that yesterday I watched The Man Who Would be King, which was pretty good but intense. I get freaked out with rope bridges but… it was a very good movie.

So I took a physics test today. And something strange happened. I did my first run through and looked up and still had half an hour left. It was… strange. And then I did the test and then I was like… “Wow… now what?”
Other than that it was a dull day of… dullness. Finished Vampirates: Demons of the Ocean.
Went to the library… and borders. 4 mangas and another billion books.
Basilisk returned to my purchases… I also jumped on a bandwagon and… I bought the first volume of Naruto… which is bad as it is over 40 volumes long and still going.
Seeing Redd by Frank Beddor (sequel for sister who is soon to be done with Looking Glass Wars)
Outlaws of Moonshadow Marsh: Sign of the Qin by L.G.Bass (pretty cover… shallow shallow me… shallow shallow me)
Spy High Mission One by A. J. Butcher (….. too many book series… bad…)
Spy High Mission Two by A. J. Butcher
Spy High Mission Three by A. J. Butcher
Faerie Wars by Herbie Brennan (against advisement I want to see if I can read it)
The True Prince J.B Cheaney (… acting book with pretty cover)
Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire (we want to see if this one is better)

Crap. I have to read 2 books this week and one of them is 500 pages long. I also have to finish Wolfcry. I bet I can do it, just you all watch. But unfortunately I also have two tests. I spent a few hours today studying. Statics test tomorrow and then a physics test on Friday. Ugh all around. I just want to relax but I doubt that is happening. Me and NaNoWriMo are not going at 100%... which kinda sucks but I bet I will write the most on weekends anyway. During the week I get distracted by thigns and it just… doesn’t happen. Especially as A.N.G.E.L.S. has a complex plot that is a not plot. A series of stories that are connected into an overlying arc. Big project requiring many note cards and string. Way scary.
But I sold Manga today. 12… and made 40 bucks doing it… I am thinking about selling another 15… which is a lot… which is scary… (I did buy two books though Hawksong and Midnight Predator)

MANGA!

I love Fridays! I bought 4 mangas today: Fruits Basket vol 15, Ouran High School Host Club vol 6-7 and Baku. The problem is of course that I haven’t bought a Fruits Basket or a Host Club in… a long time… which means that there is much… refreashing that needs to be done. Baku is done by the manga artist who created The Demon Ororon. They have been publishing a lot of their works. I hope they print TDO sequel. In other manga news: Petshop of Horrors’ sequel is going to be published by Tokyopop in February! I am so excited!

So Friday is said and done. It is just me and mom since everyone else is elsewheres. I am planning on spending the weekend doing nothing… at all… except study and watch crime dramas. I went to the library and borders today. I need to stop making this a habit but I just can’t seem to stop… Anyways I bought 4 manga, one of which is Wild Adapter. I was totally excited when I saw it!
The books I checked out from the library were
Dracula: The Graphic Novel (Why?... because it called to me)
Stormbreaker: The Graphic Novel (Aw… kid is soo cute!)
Raven’s Gate by Anthony Horowitz (and my obsession continues. It looks interesting so I hope it is as good as he million other books)
Doppelganger by David Stahler Jr. (It had the word ‘doppleganger’ in the title and it was sorta horror novel-esque.)
Bloodline by Kate Cary (Another book I keep seeing at borders…. So I got it because I could)
Alison, Who When Away by Vivian Vande Velde (Once again VVV called and I obeyed)

GETBACKERS

Sep. 21st, 2007 10:19 pm
nikavia: (Default)
… So I went to Borders today and bought another 5 mangas… sigh I need impulse control. I bought two of the 4 Getbackers I am missing. I have still not read SDK but I don’t remember anything from Getbackers so I have to reread 16 volumes before I can read the two that I bought. So that is a chunk of my weekend gone. Not to mention the fact that I spent several hours playing Kingdom Hearts today… **shrugs**
I finished Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town today as well. It was a good book… exceedingly weird but pretty good. I recommend it but only for people who are awake when they read it as it is a hard read.
I took a calc test…. I think it went well… I am tired…

Sigh I think I need something to do. But nothing I want to do makes sense… I watched more House today. I read some manga. I think I want to catch up on Getbackers. I don’t know why but it seems like a good manga to catch up on. It will be one of the longest. Oh and SDK beat Fushigi Yugi for my longest series at 24 volumes to Fushigi Yugi’s 23. time to be lazy.
I also returned On Fire’s Wings. Luna publications sucks apparently. Another book that I got 50 pages in and saw no reason to continue. Maybe I just haven’t found the right book but it was exceedingly disappointing.

My arm hurts **whinewhinewhine** I had to do a blood test today so my arm is all wonky and strange. I am also not feeling 100%. I woke up with a scratchy throat, used cough drops and attempted to help study group with statics before my brain was fully functional. I went to my classes and froze in statics. That was unpleasant. I then went home-ish and got blood drawn. Then I came home and read a whole book.
Surrender is a clever book. I liked it. It was… disturbing and poignant. The books title comes from the name of a dog within the book. The story follows two boys (though it is more of a reflection, looking back). One is called Gabriel and the other Finnegan, though Gabriel isn’t Gabriel’s real name. Gabriel is called an angel by Finnegan.  Boyhood promises abound, Finnegan promising to do evil, Gabriel promising to do good. The book however is mostly set around them at the age of 20 with Gabriel on his death bed with a degenerative disease and reflecting on their relationship. It’s dark… I like it…
I went to borders and spent $5.73 on a manga due to 5 borders bucks and many discounts… tomorrow I think I will return my eight billion library books… since I have read too much in the past week.
Went to dinner with Dusty but got sick. Totally sucks… am not trying to update while watching Smallville. Ugh tired… and books….

I went to the library, which I something I should never do without supervision, ever! I now have 23 books checked out, and I am willing to bet I will be done with at least two of them by the end of the day.
New Books are:
Rant: An Oral Biography of Buster Casey by Chuck Palahniuk (The guy who wrote Fight Club. I thought it looked interesting and it is one book that has haunted me for months now. So I picked it up)
Corbenic by Catherine Fisher (Similar story to Heir Apparent. Checked it out, got like 20 pages in, had to return it)
Grass for His Pillow. Episode One, Lord Fujiwara’s Treasure by Lian Hean. (I keep seeing these books at Borders and I grabbed one of the series.)
Grass for His Pillow. Episode One, The Way Through the Snow by Lian Hean.
The Rumplestiltskin Problem by Vivian Vande Velde.
Surrender by Sonya Hartnett.
Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town by Cory Doctorow. (This was recommended to me by Richelle. Thought I’d try it)
Witch Dreams By Vivian Vande Velde (The main character is named Nyssa, how could I resist?)
The Intruders by E. E. Richardson (I was tempted by my favorite version of ‘Now I lay me down to sleep’…)
Evil Genius by Catherine Jinks (Hello, look at the title)
At the Firefly Gate by Linda Newberry
More Horowitz Horror By Anthony Horrowitz (I can’t say no)
Vampirates: Tides of Terror by Justin Somper
Exposure by Kurt Wenzel
The Witch's Boy by Michael Gruber

I also bought two mangas, finished A Killing in Comics and started watching House. Mangas are a “nonobadnyssa”. The book was good, I liked it. It made me smile and I solved the mystery. It reminded me of a film noire, with cheesy lines and sometimes the odd comparison that made no sense. And the spoofs of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman were especially entertaining. House entertains me, mostly because I am slightly anti people so that calls to me in the main character, as well as the rest of the cast. They entertain me and it makes me laugh. And I feel horrible for the patients. Sudden urge to give hugs.

Yay home! I am so glad to just lean back and relax again. I started Wicked, got like 4 pages into it before I got distracted by other things. I also watched The Closer, which is an interesting and fascinating drama as it doesn’t lead you to the ending and just kind of springs it on you. I like it.
I bought a manga today but I am saving my money for a bit to buy some anime and things from this retail thing I found. Today is a wonderful day of boredom and updating and other things.

…. So I went to Borders again today… But I also went to the library. I checked out many books, eleven actually:
Heir Apparent by Vivian Vande Velde (I have never once in the eight times I have checked this book out, finished it)
Vampirates: Demons of the Ocean by Justin Somper (Keep picking it up at Borders, think it is a neat premise, buy a manga instead)
Hawksong by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes (I love Atwater-Rhodes, so I gave in and checked out this whole set of her books. I want them all… I’ve read Hawksong but I don’t remember it too well.)
Snakecharm by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
Wolfcry by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
Falcondance by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz (I Love Anthony Horowitz. He’s a brilliant and demented author for teenagers. I’ve read two out of three of one of his other series and I love his style. So I wanted to try the Alex Rider books before I bought them. {plus I would have to pick the styling I wanted.})
Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire (I have told myself many times I will sit down and read this book. Many times have I not. I will not walk away this time damn it)
The Death Collector by Justin Richards (… Spur of the moment… it has a Dinosaur on the cover and the word “death” in the title. How can I say no?... I am such a boy.)
A Killing in the Comics by Max Allen Collins (… Once again, shallow cover reasons. I read the back cover. It has a comic book cover. I… I am a tomboy with no control issues when I am in the library)
The Black Tattoo by Sam Enthoven (… another one of the borders things where I pick it up and go “Ooooh Neat” and then buy two mangas instead)

Ugh Thursdays. Went to Borders today. Bought 4 mangas. I know I know bad Nyssa but I couldn’t resist. I love Mangas. I completed a series and bought one by one of my favorite artists. I also bought one more by another manga artist that I have… which is strange. Its like… lets dub it “manga-cest”. But the funny part is that instead of skipping home and reading said mangas, I skipped home, pulled out said mangas, made the stupid mistake of looking behind me on my bookshelf and read a whole book in two hours… Yeah that was special.
I am tired.

Today, Dusty and I took Yuka to the mall. It was fun. We wandered and showed her American trends and I think she thinks the entirety of America is insane. We ate pretzels for lunch and Barnes and Noble was the best.
I bought many things… a ton of Harry Potter… lol
I bought a Sirius Black wall scroll, with his wanted poster on it. He looks deranged and it makes me ecstatic to have it. I also bought a Sirius Black shirt… I then bought much candy and a Harry Potter poster book. I can now plaster my walls with Harry Potter. Everyone back away. Then I bought 4 mangas, pushing me into the great realm of the 500s. I did a good job I think. I bought Nodame Cantabile, which Yuka recommended. If they had had Red River volume one, I would have bought it. She also mentioned Mushishi and how it was just released as a movie in Japan. Maybe I’ll buy that one sometime. I also bought Le Chevaleir d’Eon, which I have been tempted to buy for a while since seeing a review of the artist in Otaku USA. Then I got Godchild volume 6, which makes me giddy as we are now drastically treading into the land I know not. I downloaded scanlations of Godchild and Count Cain years ago, and never really checked up on it so now I am giggly and excited because I have no idea what is going to happen. There are only two volumes left. The next one comes out in November. I am soo excited. I have to buy Count Cain though, as well as Godchild volume 2… I like having them physically, and having all thirteen volumes would be awesome. Finally I bought the final volume of Shout Out Loud. I originally downloaded the first two volumes years ago, and wasn’t that interested, but now it is one of my favorite series.
I think I need to make some sort of list thing to work with, piles and piles and other things that I just go through every once and a while and just cross stuff out.
After all of the mall excitement, I took Dusty home and agreed to meet her tomorrow to argue with UNM. Then we went to Papa Felipe’s, and I ordered the largest burrito I have ever seen. It was far to much for a single person to consume in one sitting. And me being scrawny and pathetic, it was damn near impossible to eat half.
We then went to see the prairie dogs. Yuka loves them. I think that they are cute in a disturbing way.

Today I was awoke by the sound of an enthusiastic dog, who, thus far has not clawed Yuka to death. I am so proud of her. Yuka joined my dad on the walk with the dogs, giving me a good 20 minutes to fall back asleep before they returned and I had to wake up because it I really hard to sleep in the living room of my house… especially with a Holly. Today was pretty easy going in the morning. Lots of dad showing Yuka things and us arguing about what to do on the trip. Yuka is a saint I swear. Each hour I notice an improvement in her English. I have started to remember small bits of Japanese and learn things. For example, one thing I learned yesterday is that the translation of the Japanese word for tornado is “Dragon Roll”, which is just awesome. I also downloaded the character pack for my laptop finally. Yuka pulled out these neat cute little speakers for her ipod. They were pink and they folded up into this little cylinder but when you opened it, it opened up into a perfectly balanced tripod with good surround sound. Anyway she wanted to look something up on yahoo!Japan so I downloaded the character pack and she got to use my laptop. I am so happy!
Yuka made lunch for us too. I missed Soba. Have I mentioned how much I miss Soba? It was one of my favorite foods in Japan. Noodles and sauce and dipping and chopsticks and I miss Soba. I need to find it here and make it I think.
Anyway, later that day while my sister was at her final driving hour, we went to target and to an oriental market place to look for a rice cooker. The thing is tiny but OMG RICE SOON! I was excited!
This evening we went to Flying Star. I ate cheese cake. It was wonderful. For all the fact that flying star is horrendously overpriced and very crowded, they have damn good cheesecake and ice cream.
When we came back, we talked about Yuka’s job. She is working as an art teacher at a middle school. She started just after we left last time I think. This will be her third school she has worked at. The principal at the first school told her to look around first before deciding on anything final. While a full job would mean better pay, she won’t have as much freedom and vacation. Anyway she is also substituting as well at this school. She seems to like it but says it is difficult. The school she is at had 6 classes per grade, wach with 38 students. The school is called Nishidai, the other schools she worked at were Sakura Michi and Izumi, both of which had smaller classes. She has to grade like ten projects per kid a semester. I do not envy her in that regard, but she is teaching what she loves so I am kinda jealous.
She also works as some kind of bus moniter for foreign embassy kids. So she gets to read the names of Saudi Princes and listen to their Ipods on occasion. They like her a lot. She is sooo sweet!
After that everyone went to bed. Yuka had taken a nap that afternoon and I am a night owl so we were both up and got to talking. She game me a list of Manga that is popular in Japan right now with the youth, as well as clicked on some neat things on yahoo!Japan that I am going to go back later and save to my bookmarks. The mangas are:
Boys Over Flowers (popular enough to be a TV Drama, VIZ publishers)
Nana (still popular after 2 years it would seem. Haha I got it before it was cool! VIZ publishers)
Red River (Yuka likes this series so I think I will have to track down volume one and check it out, published by VIZ)
Beck (Yuka’s friend likes this one, since it is a band drama. Tokyopop)
Nodame Cantabile (This is another music drama. Yuka likes this one too. Published by Del Rey)
Kimi Ni Todoke (not published yet as far as I can find)
Kare Kano (Really popular in Japan, Tokyopop)
And maybe a few more. But I will be watching that site now. I will be ahead of the curve once again damnit. We talked about SDK, and she laughed at me because I like a boy’s manga. I laughed to because really, most of my manga is shonen. But anyway, we then moved onto music. We both find Dir en Grey to be a bit terrifying, and I told her how they came here at one point. In Japan right now, someone called GReeeeN is really popular. I listened to a clip and I like it. We then talked American Music and discovered that we both like Maroon 5. I think I am going to have to burn a whole bunch of CDs for her before she leaves.
Eventually though, I started to get tired (at around 1) and we are now calling it quits for the night. I am so excited to show her the Manga collection at the mall! Tomorrow, we are getting up bright and early to go to Bandelier.

UNM vs CNM

I hate UNM. Loath it in its stupid meaningless petty and… petty ways. They are trying to charge me for part time because I can’t actually register for the other two. So now I have to argue with them and actually do crap and force my way into working and arguing. I have to argue with CNM. I have already argued with CNM. I don’t want to argue with them again for at least 6 months. You should only have to fight with them every 6 months. I have fought with them already for this six months, I should be good until like October or November.
New Goals for this month. Same 10,000 words (see I already have 778 words). Boxes and things will become more critical. I think I really need to clean out my room but I am such a hoarder that it is hard to get rid of anything. I also have to prepare to move out of my room because Yuka will be staying in mine. Other goals include, but are not limited to: Reading Anita Blake, Maybe consider selling some Manga’s… buy Harry Potter mags and hoard until my children’s children vomit on them or sell them on the 22nd centuries version of ebay (if the world lasts that long).
For today though, I will panic about my final tomorrow and plan war on UNM using various household objects. I am the sugar.

Finished Burnt Offerings in three days. Burnt Offerings is one of my favorite Anita Blake books, tied with Obsidian Butterfly, which is set in New Mexico and Lunatic Cafe, which was the first one I read and will always hold a special place in my heart. But upon reading it rapidly, I have determined exactly what it is I do not like about the character Anita Blake. She is a Mary Sue. Like freakin’ Arya from Eragon. She’s perfect, right down to her flaws. The only difference between the two is that I like Anita a good 65% of the time, whereas I can’t stand Arya. Anita is a Mary Sue. LKH is quoted as asking why people continue to read if they don’t like her main character. I can explain it with Burnt Offerings. Burnt Offerings is the perfect mix of technicalities, minor characters, and shifting rules. In Burnt Offerings, Anita does fully bloom into a Mary Sue, but she doesn’t act like one just yet. If anything, her bad move decision to have sex regularly has made her more likable. But Anita Blake is like SDK, cept I hate Anita sometimes. There are many plots and many characters. I love all the characters… cept Nathanial who still kind of freaks me out. But moving back to Anita Sue, she’s pretty, but not beautiful, has a one of a kind gift, is surrounded by men who lust after her, can hold her own with the boys, clashes with ever woman she meets, and is SPECIAL! But most of all, the thing that irritates me most about Anita Blake is she is never wrong and cannot maintain a constant course or thought or choice.
In other news I bought two mangas and two of those Harry Potter ending books. I now have collector items. I am happy… Plus I got Samurai Deep Kyo!... and I found out about this wonderful new thing. Anita Blake Comic book. It will be part of my Amazon Puchase.
