2009 in Review

nikaviaSo, I wasn’t that good about the Journal this year. I’ll look back when I am old (or like, next year) and be like OMG WHAT DID I DO IN 2009? So… Here is my year in review.
The Months...
January
Any accomplishments completely overshadowed by one terrible night. The accomplishments were $600 in textbooks, beating crisis core and falling back in love with Harry Potter. Fandom: Harry Potter
February
Walked away. After that, it was homework, more homework and even more. I went to PostSecret. It’s a memory I will keep for a very long time. Fandom: Harry Potter
March
Fell in love with Watchmen. I also got a job. In the real world, where you are surrounded by adults, who have families and kids and mortgages and are not in any way related to university life. Yeah, pretty terrifying. I also got a 100% on my Vibes Exam. A much better month overall. Fandom: SGA and Watchmen
April
Scriptfrenzy victory. Joined two honors societies, Kappa Mu Epsilon and Phi Eta Sigma. Got a job at CH2MHill. Made friends with the GIRLS in the ME department. Stayed up late with Fernando more times than either of us would like to admit. Realized why Jason is one of the coolest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Fandom: SGA and Watchmen
May
Finished with Dean’s List Status. Fell in love with NuTrek. Missed Sarah. Met my baby cousin again and got to be beloved. Started work. Grew up more than I wanted to. Was complimented and told I was mature for my age, which made me feel pretty good about myself. Helped my self esteem recover from the semester. Was alive again. Fandom: Star Trek and SGA
June
Turned 21 and had the best birthday ever, starting with Boss giving Fernando and me a long weekend and seeing Transformers, which may not have had the best of plots, but was explosive and awesome none the less. Bought myself some awesome gifts though. Also, the rising dawn of a new Fandom (started airing 06/21. We are so close and meant to be). Got an AWESOME new Laptop. Fandom: Star Trek
July
Got really sick, but in my sickness, found Merlin, and haven’t looked back since. And I LOVE IT. Unrepentantly. Thank you Sarah for giving me the final shove to fall into fandom madness. Got called for Jury Duty, Saw Harry Potter 6 on Monday night (over 24 hrs before the rest of ABQ). Fandom: Merlin (like you have to even ask for the rest of this post)
August
School resumes. Finish job happily and with so much experience I am grateful for. Got Dissidia, finally. Got and IpodTouch, which I am now permanently attached to. Fandom: Merlin
September
Got Dusty hooked on Merlin. Am no longer alone in mad downward spiral of epic proportions. Caught the flu, and then two weeks later at the end of September, caught Swine Flu. Got 358/2 days and I am also still playing that… Bit of Fail, but that is what break is for right? Fandom: Merlin
October
Struggled but survived swine flu. I can now tell my future offspring I survived a pandemic. Midterms were actually occurring for once, and I had four exams in three days. Got the highest score on the Math Midterm. Yeah, pretty epic. Also got a 96 on my Controls exam and got an A on my Japanese midterm. And a 95 on my Heat Midterm. Went as a princess for the first time ever for Halloween. Fandom: Merlin
November
Now watch Merlin with Dusty every weekend. YAY. Nanowrimo victory, but I don’t really like what I wrote. Started playing again, creativity all over the place. I wrote my last lab report for undergraduate work. You have no idea how happy it made me. Fandom: Merlin
December
Got straight A’s for the first time since middle school. In the ME program, this is practically unheard of. I am pretty pleased with myself. Sprained my ankle to match my sisters. Had a blast watching the gang get drunk last day of finals for Fernando’s birthday. Had a good Christmas. Saw Avatar (x2) and Sherlock Holmes(x2) Loved them both, but I love RDJ so… Celebrated New Year at Dusty’s. Fandoms: Merlin (like duh), Terminator (Sam Worthington and Anton Yelchin FTW {also known as the obsession that hit during finals}), and Sherlock Holmes (RDJ!)
The Classes
Design III
Stupid scuba tank regulator. Team girl power kicked total ass however, even if we had less than 10 minutes to present because everyone else went like over 25 minutes (with the exception of Fernando’s group). Had a great time. Got an A
ME314
I liked taking classes with Starr. I am glad I signed up for Digital Controls with him next semester (Sp10). Got a B+ in the class and had a good time, once we got past freakin CAMS.
Materials
Hated it. Only C(C+ thank you very much) I plan on getting in college but GOD I hated this class. I liked the lab though. Even if it was essentially Jewelry at times.
Vibes
Loved Vibes. Liked the class and had a good time in it. Controls tied into it fairly well and learned a lot. Definitely helped me grasp dynamics even more.
Music Appreciation
Lol A+. That’s all I really have to say about it.
Controls
103% in the class because of my awesome scores, my homework and the fact that our prof was totally awesome. Had only Adjunct profs for ME this semester but he was very nice, knew my name and I learned a lot in the class. Digital controls, here I come.
Japanese
I am glad my dad encouraged me to take it instead of French. I learned a lot, even if Katakana and I will never be on good terms. But I can read Hiragana now, which will be nice when I got back to Japan (hopefully for a graduation gift). Grade:A
Design IV
Didn’t really like the class. It was strength of Materials all over again. But I rocked the last test (100% baby!) and I understand it’s importance. But man that book was freaking HUGE. Grade:A-
Heat
LOVED IT. Even though all I seemed to be doing last semester, I really enjoyed it. The material was interesting and I had a good time, especially once the labs were over with. Makes me consider going into Fluids/Thermo/Heat for career choice, over something my dynamics based. Grade:A
Math305
Had a great time. Took it with Dusty, learned how apparently, proofs are very important, or something. It did instill a great fear in me for future students of mathematics, but hopefully, I just kept hearing the bad parts, and that maintaining a 3.0 in math is really not excruciatingly difficult. Grade:A
CH2MHill
Not a class, but learned so much and had such a good time, esp with Fernando in literally the next cubical, with us being the only people on the row. Went out to work at Sandia, and got to tour Intel. Such an amazing job experience, you have no idea.
The People
Fernando
We’re invited to each other’s weddings at this point.
Jason
We are apparently getting married or something. Adore Jason, and fangirled/boyed all the time together.
Dusty
Hung out with her a lot the last six months, which was nice. Got her hooked on a Fandom. Which is awesome. Plus, sometimes she feeds me. No, seriously, yay for best friends who live in the continental united states and that put up with me randomly linking Bradley James/Colin Morgan to her. Also, the only person who will laugh at the placement of that slash.
Sarah
Missed dreadfully, sometimes to the point of it being an open wound.
Cait
Spent last several months in England studying abroad. Tres exciting. Missed.
Tidah
Saw a lot at the beginning of Fall Term. Failed at totally surprising (or maybe totally succeeded, who knows) at birthday party. Introduced me to Which Wich. Yeah pathetic I know. Three years at that point and never gone.
Lindsay
My sister is graduating at the same time I am! She just turned 18, resprained her ankle and has fallen in love with Axis Powers Hetalia, in a kind of terrifying way. We're talking facebook and RPGing kind of way, but hey, she watches Merlin if I watch APH. She's taking calculus right now so it's fun to be able to help on her maths, even if she is slowly going insane.
Mom
Mom has had a pretty dull year. I got her to watch Merlin with me when it started and she likes it as well. She almost broke her arm earlier this year due to a Cat and is probably going to need a vacation away from the dogs sometime.
Dad
Dad is being nice and not overly helpful about the whole grad school and your looming future thing. But he's been really helpful and encouraging. He didn't get to go flying as much as he wanted to, with everyone catching swine flu and work deciding that he needs to work full time for like 2 months. But I got him to watch Merlin!
Angel, Winter and Holly
Not really people in the technical sense but... Angel is going to be 14 this month, and it's starting to show, which makes me unbearably sad sometimes, but she still bounces around when we go for walks so I am just relieved that she is feeling well enough to do so. We though we were going to lose Winter over the summer, but the vet gave her some miracle drugs and within the day she was back on her feet and walking down the driveway (as she couldn't stand that morning, this is a huge improvement). She is back to being the sled dog on the walks and I have to jog to keep up with her sometimes. Holly just turned 4, and may possibly mellow out soon. She's gotten so much better though. We no longer fear for our guests lives, and my grandparents now come over to our house. She is still a sweetheart and still the puppy of the bunch.
Bradley James
AKA: Prince Arthur Pendragon in Merlin or FFBJ, or just "**sigh** BRADLEY";. Yeah, I haven’t had an epic celeb crush since I was like… 15 so… This one? Pretty fuckin’ epic. And I ADORE IT. Shoulders, teeth, hair, clavicles, ridiculous facial expressions and the numerous other psycho fangirls out there who dedicate picspams to his JAW. And while I do find his character’s random shirtless moments a bit… random… I can’t say I don’t appreciate them. Also, personality wise, seems like a lot of fun to just Be Around. Keep being awesome Mr. Bradley James.
Colin Morgan
AKA: Merlin, or just “Awww…Colin”. Second epic celeb crush of the year. Adorable and with fantastic cheekbones and just overall gorgeousness. Plus, inspired me to read for the first time in like three months (will be a fantastic Callum). You keep being fantasic, Professor Morgan (and if you really must, continue being awesome as well).
Doppleganger
AKA: James ___ ___ ___, because to put his whole name would make me feel creepy but I need to remember this in as much awesome detail as possible. Our own (or UNM’s own) Bradley James Doppleganger and all the hilarious madness, from his Frat boy status, to his Ironic First Name (and the subsequent THREE NAMES) to his woman charming ways. Awkward moments of pacing each other, random eye catching and hilarious observations about his test taking skills. Plus awkward moments in all directions and the fates deciding I simply could not let you walk away without seeing you one final time, causing my cell phone to die. Plus: Coffee girl who likes Dusty’s bag, physics test 6th senses and the fact that you are a BUSINESS MAJOR. You are my EPIC THING OF THE YEAR Mister. Well, you tie with Merlin but without Merlin, you wouldn’t be on the list.
The VICES, Saving Graces, and Other Simple Pleasures
Merlin
So this new obsession is almost funny, but really, really isn’t. Worse than any I have ever had and I LOVE IT! The amount of time I have put into it is a little bit scary but I love it, all of it and I will probably never un-love it. The fans are awesome too, and way scarier/more exciting than I thought possible. Please continue to be epic for 2010 Merlin Fandom.
Delicious
Yes, I have one now. And it is beautiful but it inspires EVIL OCD TENDENCIES OF SORTING AND THINGS. But I love it. I will probably link it eventually, when I think about it.
Weight
I am now about 115lbs. And you have no idea how happy that makes me. I made it up to 120, but naturally, I got swine flu two days later.
Skynet
Skynet is apparently my house. They used the damn down the street for the entrance to skynet. If I had known, I would have been there in a heartbeat to watch.

I have discovered I like Blue Moon, Dos Equis, Muscato Wine and Hard Cider. Also, Chocolate Birthday Cakes. Also, I get giggly, and this is very funny.
I also redid my whole journal. New layout, new profile, new moodtheme, new userpic. Yeah kinda went overboard but... It's time.
I'll deal with those resolutions tomorrow I think.
