The big question, Anita Blake and the longest spoiler cut I've ever done
So i once again have not updated in two weeks. I really have no idea if summer will help or hurt my updating skills. last summer i updated i think... four times? it was not a pretty sight. Hopefully I will do better. So I am going to tell of my summer thus far... It was a bunch of nothing... It was glorious...
Okay so i went on vacation but there wasn't much to do in Pagosa so we came back early.
I've also been reading Anita Blake again... I did this last year as you may recall but got distracted in the middle of the fourth book (i think it was the Illiad) and never picked it up again. So I decided to start up again. Why? Well there are many reasons, on being that the hardcover copy of Incubus Dreams has been glaring at me from the foot of my bed. Another reason is that Micah, the next "book" in the series came out. I don't think it should really count. It's shorter, the only book with a male on the cover and the only book with a characters name in the title. Not to mention that there is a funky border thing around all the text. It's rather irritating. The final reason is that the next book ( real one) is coming out on my birthday (June 27th) and that is less then 25 days away. I still have to read Circus of the Damned(a whole 2 chapters in, i'm doing good), Burnt Offerings, Blue Moon, Obsidean Butterfly, Narcissus in Chains, Cerulean Sins, Incubus Dreams, and Micah to read.
I saw X-men on saturday... It was glorious... i cried... I made an icon of my favorite scene (Pyro vs Iceman)... I bought the novelization. I can't say much here so i cut for spoilers so that way i don't ruin it for you all.
Now to the fun part, the stuff I liked... Here's a list:
1.) St. John Allerdyce (AKA-Pyro, Johnny, John)- John kicked total ass. He had fun new hair, A kick ass lighter arm thingy(you need to see them) and was brilliantly played. Aaron Stanford is my new God. He made Pyro still like a lost little boy in little actions yet an impulsive adult in others. He made Pyro into someone who could be redeemed, hell doesn't even need to be redeemed because he was manipulated and made it feel like a "one you're in, you're in or your body is never found situation". I also love how even in the heat of that final battle, magneto keeps a leash on him because he knows all John wants to do is show off for Bobby and fight Bobby.
2.) Robert "Bobby" Drake (AKA-Iceman)- Bobby was wonderful. He was the good guy, with just a little bit of darkness in him that only seemed to emerge when John was around. He was the perfect big brother and tried so hard to be the perfect boyfriend. He isn't even tempted by the cure... he's really grown up. I also like how in the final battle how he goes to fight John without even hesitating, as if knowing that John is waiting for him.
3.) The Pyro vs Iceman Battle- OMG! i loved it. I saw a trailer on YouTube and it had a quick clip of their battle and all i could think is "There is a God and he Loves me". I loved it. Bobby went full on Iceman. I loved it from start to finish. Johnny doesn't cheat and fry bobby, Bobby waits until john is ready. It was the ultimate "we were friends once battle". And bobbys line "You never should have left" It was wonderful. The whole thing from the first slam of powers to John's confused expression right before he is knocked out.
4.) Kitty- Kitty was done well. They didn't make her into a boyfriend stealing bitch. They made her into a girl who wasn't afraid of being a mutant who could hold her own and be a hero. Right on Kitty!
5.) The ending- the ending where Mags moves the chess peice made me shriek with evil joy. My Magneto could still be an evil terrorist fighting for mutant rights!
6.) Angel's wings- OMG... If i had wings like that i would never touch the ground. His wings were beautiful and what kind of father would even wnat to destroy them. They were perfect and the actor was perfect and i loved it all.
7.)Scot's eyes- even if it was just a split second, we got to see Scott's eyes in all their true, non covered glory. they were kickass.
8.)Magneto when he responds to Callisto's question of where he has been marked if he is a mutant. His response is to show the serial number from the camps of the Nazi's and say something along the lines of "I've been marked only once, and never will i be again"
9.) Magneto lifting the bridge- once again, OMG! It was awesome and if i was a soldier, i would just be like "Screw this" and surrender. It was intense and awesome.
10.) The other Pyro-Iceman confrontation- This was fun. I have it saved on YouTube so i can watch it whenever i want... I'm sick and need help i know. But i love how there was still a best friend teasing quality to it. Not to mention there was fire. I'm easy, what can i say.
Things that angered me:
1.) Rogue- Rogue pissed me off in this movie. It was whine and then sudden human. Thanks Rogue, see you next movie when the cure wears off. She was a mean girlfriend, not even leaving a note when she chickened out. I mean, i might have done the same thing if i sucked the life out of people but i would have thought about it for more then three seconds.
2.) Jean-...Damnit Jean. bad bad bad. You couldn't have died could you. You also were incapeable of killing yourself. Good job, you killed everyone you loved. This angered me. This would have been a perfect time for rogue. but no.... she was getting cured.
3.)Callisto- Don't get me wrong, it's not callisto, it's the role she performed. She was Mystique in a not blue way and she was a little bit too angry for my taste. She also got new speed powers and her brain powers left no mystery. She was like a Cerebro with legs.
4.) Little Jean Grey- In the comics, little jean grey is so traumatized that her powers flare out. This little jean grey seemed...evil. It was creepy and did not make me at all sympatetic to her. I wanted Jean Grey to die at the end, even if she was a damaged little girl. besides, she wasn't jean anymore really, she was pheonix.
5.) Class- Jean is a class 5 and Mags and the Prof aren't The Professor can kill you if he thinks to hard (hello, second movie anyone) and Magneto can affect the gravitational fields of the earth. Given those two i would pick jean. Magneto could kill me with a quarter. Also powers like Bobby's and Pyro's seem very dangrous. They are elemental. John just needs a spark and he can create an inferno. Bobby can freeze the very blood in your veins, can destroy lands and ice things that do not work the way they are supposed to when iced. Maybe i am biased. But for destruction the most destrustive appear to be Bobby, John, Magneto, Professor x, jean Grey and Storm. They can kill you from a distance. They rest need some closeness and touching. I'd rather take my chances with Colossus then John. Then i could run and hide like a girl where as John would just set me on fire.
The Deep Question: Did John Live?
You know this question bothered you. So i give you a list of reasons why I think he lived.
1.) The novelization, the junior noveilizatio and the picture junior novelization all had him being rescued by Bobby.
----Counter would be that Novelizations lie... I don' think this is a lie, too many novelizations saying the same thing.
2.) Bobby is not a jerk. That was his (former) best friend that he knocked out, probally severly hurt with the whole feezing of the arms. Bobby is a good boy. he wouldn't leave a poor helpless knocked out person. That would be like hurting defenseless puppies. And he did leave John defenseless. Bobby is an X-men, a white hat. He would be kicked out.
----Counter: Bobby is a jerk and decided to leave Johnny in the dust. To which i counter with a yeah right and the line "You never should have left". Bobby missed his best buddy... although you may have to torture him to get him to admit it. He didn't say it to awake johnny, he said it to sleepy johnny.
3.) There was never a body. No body= no death. They did't show him getting ripped to shreds by Pheonix's evil death thingy. They showed plenty of other people getting ripped up.
----counter: They didn't not show him getting away. This could be because we formed an attachment to John in the second movie and it would hurt to see him die. I Counter with But they ripped the professor and scot to itty bitty shreds. Johns would have been fast and doubt he would have screamed. Also if that is the case then why didn't we see Juggernaut get exploded, we didn't see his body either and he wasn't even that well liked. We only got to see him this moive and he was going to kill the kid and called Kitty mean names.
4.) Magneto woke up in time to get away- Something tells me danger room training had a little part where they taught you how to wake up. Magneto goes out and gets up early enough.
----counter: Mags was hit with a dart thingy. John was hit with an ice bobby. Very different ways of being knocked out. I respond with it wasn't my arguement.
5.)John had possible Redemption- There is a rule in movies. if a character has even a tiny glimmer of redeption possibility, they are not allowed to die until they either are redeemed or they stomp it out. John had glimmers. faint glimmers hidden in hesitation and the urge to abandon his new boss man in hopes of figthing his former best friend. He almost misses his cue on the blow up clinic thing because of the urge to seek bobby out in the crown of protestors. He lets himself be seen and recognized, just to see bobby and mess with him.
----Counter: a. "John was no redeemable", thus could die to which i offer hesitation at leaving mystique and gung ho attitude about non magneto agenda-ing. I also offer that this is x-men and any mutant can be redeemed. have you read the comic books? b. "this is a break the mold film and they killed whoever they want. Look at the Professor and Scot and Jean." I reply that yes they did die, but for different reasons. The professor was a shock value Omg i can't believe they just did that. Scot was a mystery. He could still be alive, we didn't really see his body either... Jean deserved to die. She was under the control of evil and couldn't destroy herself, so she took a passive suicidal route and allowed herself to be killed. John wasn't passively suicidal as far as we are shown, nor does he die in a shock value way. Also this is x-men and an action movie. No body means they are alive. Notice no jean body at the end of x2.
I think i have thought to much about this. Tell me what you guys think about John's status and the movie in general.
i've been playing PS2 and hope to go see x-men again. you are all welcome to join me if you want.
