It’s been since February since I last updated.
The basics of the last 6ish months:
I Graduated from College Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
I am attending Grad School at UNM, working with my Fluids Professor on Shock Tubes.
We built a freaking awesome Wheelchair for Design V.
I became obsessed with DC Comics.
Angel Died.

The specifics in detail under the cuts, like last time I did a recap of my life.

The Months... )

The Classes... )

The People... )

The VICES, Saving Graces, and Other Simple Pleasures... )

So yeah, now I'm all caught up. See if we can do a better job huh?

According to Dusty, Doppelganger has decided to wear ironic t-shirts. This pretty much made my DAY.

After our quiz in Stats, Dusty got out and saw Doppelganger leave his class. Apparently his shirt had a gigantic shield on the back of it. I think he is doing it intentionally at this point. Which would be hilariously awesome.

So I came home and watched BLOOD: the last vampire. Which is a movie. Not an anime. At least this time. A live action one. I kind of liked it, even if the blood was purpleish and the whole thing was… very what gravity? Gravity is for wusses and things but I liked it. I liked the head chick demons various wardrobes and the femslash in that movie practically wrote itself. Deep intimate connections between girls that involve intense stares and blood letting. Yeah it was a tiny bit gay.

I did not, however, like the ending. Because it sucked. A lot. Not the final epic fight part, but the part after that, mostly because it was very “what the hell is going on here”.

Oh Fridays.

In another pointless entry because today was fairly boring (no REALLY), I have noticed that I start a lot of entries with “So…”

It’s kind of funny that I developed that kind of pattern, but it makes sense given that’s how I talk. If I don’t have an instant start like “Hello” or something I try to find something to lead with and “so” usually works really well. It’s a nice non committal way of starting a conversation that allows both parties to back out and flee at any given moment. And when it comes to journal entries… well I am not quite sure why that seems to work really well.

I’ve found something pretty for Dusty to look at. Skins has called out loudly to the adoring hoard and we may have to give in soon. It has Joe Dempsie, and some blond guy that Dusty is all fangirly over. He is pretty in a work of art kind of pretty, and I would certainly do a once over if he walked in one of my classes, but I think Bradley James and his amazing shoulders have polluted my definition of attractiveness. I now like broad shoulders and biceps and muscles. Though to be honest I was never very much attracted to slender little slips of things. For reference, Colin Morgan is not a slender slip of a thing in my book. He’s scrawny, but he isn’t… weak looking.

Some twisted need to have a big strong man protect me? Who knows but it is how I FEEL. And I don’t mind because there is no lack of broad shouldered men in New Mexico.

I am once again back into school. I know this because my homework is making me so frustrated, I want to throw it across the room.

We met with our professor for design. The ideas he liked were: automatic belay device, moped bike, steady cam. Other than that, don’t really care anymore. Moving on.

Design for manufacturability homework was turned in today. I spent all of class outlining my apparently 26 chapter fanfiction of possibly +100000 words. Fernando leans over mid class and whispers “whatcha doing?” After a moment of flailing, I write:

story idea

But left the whole writing fanfiction part out of it. As it is a Merlin Fanfiction, the fact that Fernando immediately replies with

you should have robot dragons that transform

Really really funny. After a moment of smothered laughter, I reply with:

there are dragons

Which gets me a revised statement of

you should have robot dragons that transform

I just smiled indulgently at him and wrote

I’ll try.

Controls is not going well. Fernando and I managed the first two and the last one very well, but failed at the third in a pretty epic manner. We did the dynamics homework and called it a night (I also cleaned up my dorm room and used my ihome while I did it. And I listened to some fanmixes. Bound still has the most awesome cover).

Dusty apparently has had a very exciting night that leaves me nervous and a bit upset (I am not sure how much of that is exacerbated by the Controls Fail). Hug Time Tomorrow I think.

Fernando tells me I should coat my room in paper and do art all over it. I am half way tempted. Also I need to remember to bring my Alice poster next week.

Oh Mordred

So… today was pretty much me doing nothing!

I mean I could have done so much but I tidied my room (aka looked for my shirt and failed to do so). I also found many books, that I then scattered all over the place. My floor is also covered in yesterdays shopping experience, and random bits of fluff… I am not sure what I am supposed to be doing in there but so long as my mother ignores it today, I am going to declare it a victory.

Watched Knowing. Kinda had some predictive plot points, but other things weren’t, for example, the ENDING of all things. But the previews gave away the plane crash, which I think would have been way more awesome if I didn’t know it was coming. But I liked it, and Dad and I talked about Sci Fi books afterward, including one by… someone about the Moon suddenly lighting up at night, and a scientist realizing this meant that the sun had flared or something and they had until morning to live.

Mother and I also watched 2x03 of Merlin. I tried to convince her to watch more, but helpful father made that impossible by sleeping through half of it (even though he hasn’t even seen 1x08). I will just have to drag mother through more and more of Merlin as the weeks go by.

Ring Fail

Jan. 22nd, 2010 11:32 pm

So today was pretty much win.

Except for I didn’t find a ring… but other than that, pretty much win.

I have homework for controls to do, and some for design for manufacturability (which I now have a group for: Dominic, Mike and Fernando). And I was right about people abandoning us in Dynamics. Both Dominic and Carrie have run away, leaving us abandoned and all that.

Stats is still very boring. We’ll see.

So I went to the mall with Dusty today. We managed to find Adam Lambert Rolling Stones Poster. I knew there would be one somewhere (and it was naturally in the first poster place we went to and nowhere else). Other than that, I failed at finding a ring, but we found Dusty some rings, which was very yay, because apparently, she is glamming. I have no idea. I am kind of like, “okay… oooh sparkly”.

I also managed to find a corset. Haven’t told the parents that… should probably get around to that eventually.
Other great thing of the day, Supernatural Season 4 finale! Now I just have to find season 5 and catch up… oh yay?

I feel kind of disconnected now though. I think I am going to go watch some Merlin and call it good.

So now I have a group for design v.

Carrie, Asha, Dita, Taylor, Jim and Geno. And I like them, so yay! Now we just have to come up with ideas. First group meeting Sunday at 3. Better not forget or anything because that would just be sad. 10 hrs a week… groan.

There was no design for manufacturability today, so I went to go see if my notes for Starr were done printing, but they weren’t, and neither were Carrie’s so we ate lunch, wandered the book store and then finally picked up out notes. I bought two things of graph paper at the bookstore, but they are awesome, you have no idea.
Dusty wants to go shopping again tomorrow, this time to feed her addiction to Adam Lambert. I say ‘…okay…?’ I am slightly curious if this is what everyone else feels like when I fall off a cliff into obsession. It’s kind of awesome not to be the one falling off of a cliff for once. I think it is because my fandom keeps me happy, with my 40 tabs open and things. But I do wonder if I am crazier at times. I know that it’s only been Merlin that I have really shared with her since well… for a long time now that I think about it.

Anyway we are on a quest for Adam Lambert posters. I have seen the Rolling Stone cover one and I just skipped past it because its Adam Lambert and while I like his music in a OH GOD NO NOT ON REPEAT kind of way, I do know what he looks like. I watch E!News afterall. I listened to the radio the morning after he won. I was just never… wowed by American Idol. Though he keeps showing up on the journals of the people I stalk on the internets. So I do know who he is, know about his epic bromance (though no where near as epic as Bradley James and Colin Morgan’s) and all that jazz. I just… I feel like I missed it. I don’t know.

I am back in my Dorm Room.

All the posters fell off my wall, except for the poster that seemed to enjoy falling off the wall all semester, Star Trek. I have no idea. I wonder if I will remember to bring my Alice poster. Probably not. I forgot my teddybear. I am getting ready to curl around my pillow and cling to it while I attempt to fall asleep. I also forgot my ihome thingy. But my touch and I will be best friends forever. I am listening to Storm in Someone Else’s Teacup. And I love it. And it makes me sad. I watched Merlin season two (eps one and two) with mom this weekend, so… yay for more this weekend.

This is my schedule:

MWF:
[900-950] ME481 Digital Controls
[1100-1150] STAT345 Statistics
[1300-1350] ME416 Applied Dynamics

TR
[800-1045] ME460 Design V
[1100-1215] ME486 Design for Manufacturability

Ew for tomorrow.

The only thing I did today was watch Jane Austin’s Persuasion, which was just as sad as I remember it being, but maybe even sadder.

The story was told better than the last time I watched this though, as it is told from the end of the story, without the boring part at the beginning with the love story and the not being allowed to marry. They skip right to the end where the heroine is pining pathetically and so is the hero, though he is wearing a dashing uniform (yum… goddamn it Bradley, get in a Victorian era movie already).

But the best part was seeing Anthony Head as King Uther with Daughters instead of a son. Which means that Arthur is the heroine… LOL at that mental image. But it was very strange as my brain was trying to figure out if I wanted him to be Giles undercover training a slayer or if wanted him to be Uther and then, THEN, my brain decided this would make an awesome fic. I think someone needs to do it with Merlin and Arthur.

The other funny part was the bandit sociopath manipulator guy from 2x11 The Witch’s Quickening was in it, as a crippled (limping) officer, and he was nice and awesome and it was kind of like SEE MEANT TO BE AN EPIC AU!

Anyway, two more days…

Ow.

So I decided to run a half mile on The Treadmill. And it was awesome because I actually managed to run a half mile, which is something I haven’t done since… well actually since the last time I ran a mile, which was a while ago. But I ran a half mile. I am going to need something to listen to though if I make a habit of this because it’s not fun to jog in place for a long time with only the wall for company. And Holly. Lest we forget the dog who does not know what to make of The Treadmill.

But now, I kind of hurt.

Back to the soundtrack. Until I can work up the effort to make my own mix, I am going to rely on other peoples mixes. I am glad that I am currently lurking in a really active fandom. Naturally, now that I have gotten many totally kick ass soundtracks, said fandom will post like 6 more tomorrow. I am also very shallow. I am more likely to pick mixes based on the cover (or sometimes the person who compiles it) than the actual songs on the mix. I also like ficmixes. Which are totally awesome and now… now I have Adam Lambert in my brain. And I don’t really want him there. The fact that it is for a mix involving strippers makes it okay… and I like that other song that he did… with the… yeah I don’t get the glam but he sings fairly well and his songs have a very bad habit of like… wiring into my head and living there when I kind of want to listen to like… anything else.

Favorite Fanmix cover is totally Bound. Sucky thing is I have to go in and edit all kinds of info so that way it displays properly on my ipod. YAY for several hours of sorting this out.

So I just finished (500)Days of Summer, which was very very good. It was the perfect romantic movie, lacked the cliché happy ending and was just fantastic. The music was great and I love the actor who plays the ‘hero’, even if he was pathetically pathetic in love. And it was sweet and you felt so bad for him. Looking back over the length of the movie, there was so much there that could be looked over again and again. It was really touching and very sweet.

I played Assassin’s Creed II today instead of prototype. I think it might have been for the best, though Ezio and I are arguing about nothing and so now I am not playing anything. I have also found Camelotsolstice, and that cannot be a good thing. We’ll see if I can hold back until after the GRE’s before totally going off the deep end. Probably not. Also, apparently, we are getting a treadmill like tomorrow. Which is exciting… that I forgot about. So… might start running.

Cousins

Jan. 3rd, 2010 11:03 pm
nikavia: (HRH Prince Arthur)
So I have a cousin, who isn't technically a cousin, as we are not blood related in the slightest. But we are very close, even if she is off at some far away school in Mass. It's a strange thing because I never count her amongst my cousins, when I say I have four female cousins and one male cousin, or that I have five cousins, but every time I mention her in conversation, she get's "cousin" attached to her name. Then I always correct myself saying "but not really my cousin in a blood sense" and continue on with whatever we were talking about prior.

According to others, this is not that uncommon, but it is strange to be caught up when people remind me that she is not technically my cousin. Apparently she has had similar experiences in far off and distant lands of college and things. Anyway, she came over today, for the afternoon and watched Season 2 of Merlin with me, fangirled and commentated. Holly behaved and it was all good times.

Tomorrow I plan on working on my GRE prep some more. I also want to work more on my organizing and maybe get some writing done, as all i have done today is add more bookmarks than I have sorted (5/190) and so maybe, that will be a nice running counter at the bottom of livejournal entries as well. We shall see.

I am considering creating a journal/community for creative works of a not related to downfall and spectrum manner. We'll have to see if I like anything enough to do so. I want to go back to my 2008 Nanowrimo and work on it some more, maybe complete it. Or some other project. I am so scattered, focusing actually hurts sometimes when it comes to creativity. I currently have two different word documents open, trying to type without getting distracted by the internet. So far, I am failing, and I expect I shall continue to do so until the internet lacks previous luster.

So, I wasn’t that good about the Journal this year. I’ll look back when I am old (or like, next year) and be like OMG WHAT DID I DO IN 2009? So… Here is my year in review.

The VICES, Saving Graces, and Other Simple Pleasures... )

I also redid my whole journal. New layout, new profile, new moodtheme, new userpic. Yeah kinda went overboard but... It's time.

I'll deal with those resolutions tomorrow I think.

Also, HAPPY 24th BIRTHDAY COLIN MORGAN!
